Heather has practiced law in Edmonton for 20 years, receiving her Bachelor of Laws degree in 1996 from the University of Alberta.  Her practice is focused in civil litigation including motor vehicle accident injury claims and other types of personal injury actions arising under occupiers’ liability.  Heather also represents clients whose own insurer has refused coverage on a property loss claim.  She will investigate the refusal and assist in achieving full recovery of your claim.

Heather draws on her years of litigation experience to provide her clients with a fair and frank assessment of their case and will ensure the client has a clear understanding of what to expect at every stage of the legal process.  With a knowledgeable and compassionate team of support staff, Heather’s clients receive all the attention and assistance they require to navigate what is often a frustrating and difficult time dealing with all aspects of their claim and recovery.  She will provide sound advice and be a strong advocate both at the negotiation table and in the courtroom when necessary to achieve the best outcome for her clients.

Prior to joining her husband, Akram Attia, at Akram Attia Law Group, Heather had an extensive practice in criminal law, commencing with an esteemed clerkship at the Alberta Court of Appeal. She worked exclusively as a youth criminal defense lawyer for 10 years before transitioning to the role of criminal legal advisor providing instruction on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and its implications for investigative integrity.  She has attended as counsel before the Law Enforcement Review Board on Police Act matters.  She has represented clients before the Provincial Court, Court of Queen’s Bench, and Court of Appeal, in relation to trials, appeals, evidentiary applications, fatality inquiry proceedings, and contested civil law applications.
